Why You Need To Be Ready When Violence Comes

There seems to be a complete disconnect between media talking heads, newspaper editors, and reality. The other day I saw a newspaper story in the Washington Post that saw the need to take "The Shield," a violent police drama, off the airwaves.

The same old same old excuses were listed as reasons.

Guns, violence, dirty talk, extremely adult situations.

Reality, in other words.

I have been watching "The Shield" since its opening episode six years ago. The critics don't have too worry about taking it off television because the producers have already announced this is the last season, which makes me a little sad. "The Shield" is one of the best things to ever be on television, along with "Rescue Me," which restarts in June.

Critics of the these two shows come from both sides of the political spectrum. Liberals supposedly abhor the guns, and violence, and conservatives don't like the dirty talk, and adult situations. Neither side seems to get it.

Both of these shows reflect reality, which is what neither of them want anything to do with.

Liberals believe that a world free of guns will be a better place. Conservatives believe that we should talk like they did at 18th century tea parties, and never acknowledge sex.

The world is a violent place, always has been, and always will be. If you think Iraq is a violent place now, wait till we leave.

Roughly 15% of Americans will be the victim of a violent crime. That's 45 million people! That means that trouble isn't far off in New York or Los Angeles; it means it's looking right over your shoulder, and could be standing right in front of you later today.

Los Angeles is a city of 13 million people. LAPD numbers 9500. Do you really think that 9500 people can police 13 million?

Well, they can stop some things.

But can they stop all the muggings, assaults, car jackings, burglaries, break ins, sexual attacks, and robberies?

Not a snowballs chance in hell.

That's why you have to be ready. That's why you have to take some responsibility. Not just for yourself, although that's a good start. You need to be able to protect not only yourself, but your entire family.

Crimedogs, mooks, they don't want anything to do with someone who is prepared to make their life a living hell, and refuses to be a victim.

All this idiocy being taught about how to handle a bad situation is just teaching people how to be a happy victim.

If you are prepared to act, you will never be a victim.

It doesn't take weeks or years of training and a lot of expense. If you can push a button, in 99% of cases you can come out on top, beating a mook at his own game.

Mooks are absolutely shocked when people fight back. In most cases they have no idea what to do. They don't think that far ahead. That's not playing by the rules. You are supposed to quietly become a victim, and let them have whatever it is that they want.

If you give them a little voltage from a stun gun, or spray them in the face with pepper spray, you have completely altered their vision of how the world works.

If you don't fight back, I guarantee you will see them again.

Once a victim, always a victim.

That's the way mooks see the world. If they stole your watch on Monday, they'll steal something else soon. You're on their list. You have become a mooch.

But if you refuse to become a victim, by carrying, and being ready to use your tools, such as a stun gun, or pepper spray, they'll cross you off the list. You're a troublemaker, or just plain crazy in their mind. They like their victims full of fear, ready to give up everything, just because they said so.

The Buddha said that a smart man avoids a mad dog, and that's exactly what you want a mook to think about you.

Get ready, be prepared. Don't let yourself become one of those 45 million victims. Don't live one more day in fear when you don't have to.
